Commodity Manager

My client is a market leading specialty chemical producer based in Germany. For their European headquarters in South Germany they are looking for a highly motivated team player as a Commodity Manager to join their Procurement team.

The Commodity Manager role is a business driven function working very closely with the internal areas of operations, engineering, new product introduction, supply chain etc.

You will be accountable for the commercial management such as pricing, evaluation, lead times, negotiation of all operations, selection of suppliers and materials, as well as implementation and optimization of packaging and raw material purchasing, taking into account the costs and customer needs.

Deliver best practice supply chain management. Develop strong and effective internal relationships with all key stakeholders to ensure that cost advantages are realized, profit improvements are secured and in order to manage and mitigate risks.

You will act as a lead buyer for spend which can be leveraged across regions and you will conduct research on supplier market dynamics, cost drivers, supplier business models, total cost of ownership models and historical spend to enhance future negotiations.

Key criteria:

  • At least 4 years of professional experience in purchasing, backed up with a University, Fachhochschule or equivalent degree
  • You will have personally handled annual budgets of €100million+
  • Excellent knowledge of German and fluent English, other languages an advantage
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate at a high level with internal and external decision makers
  • Analytical and continuously searching for new opportunities
  • Improvement and result oriented with a pro-active attitude
